Analyzing an Issue or Event (language diversity and culture diversity )in Diversity Through the Lenses of History and the Humanities

Milestone Two Guidelines and Rubric
Analyzing an Issue or Event in Diversity Through the Lenses of History and the Humanities
Overview: For the first part of your final project, the critical analysis portfolio, you will select an issue or event in diversity and critically analyze it through the
four general education lenses: history, humanities, natural and applied sciences, and social sciences. By viewing the issue/event through these lenses, you will
gain insight into how the intersectional nature of diversity affects society, as well as both your own individual framework of perception and the choices, attitudes,
and behaviors of others in the world around you.
For this second milestone, due in Module Four, you will analyze your issue/event from Milestone One through the history and humanities lenses. This will provide
you with a chance to practice analyzing your issue/event through these lenses and receive feedback on this practice attempt.
Prompt: First, review the overviews and resources in Modules One through Three, as well as the Four Lenses document from Module One.
Next, analyze your issue/event through the lens of history, and address the following:
 How does this issue/event interact with the history lens and impact social issues?
 In what ways does the history lens help articulate a deeper understanding of the social issue(s) that inform your issue/event?
Next, analyze your issue/event through the lens of the humanities by exploring the following questions:
 How is this issue/event portrayed creatively in society? What is the message or commentary of this representation?
 How does this representation interact with you in your personal and professional lives?
Note: You are completing two separate analyses: one from history and one from the humanities. You must submit two papers in a single Word document.
Be sure to use evidence from research to support your analysis. Refer to course resources, the LibGuide for this course, and any other pertinent resources to
support your responses. Relevant current news sources may be used with instructor approval. Incorporate instructor feedback into your final project.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
I. Lens Analysis: In this section of your assignment, you will analyze your issue/event through two of the four general education lenses.
A. Analyze your issue/event through the lens of history for determining its impact on various institutions. Utilize evidence from research to support
your analysis.
B. Analyze your issue/event through the lens of the humanities for determining its impact on various institutions. Utilize evidence from research to
support your analysis.
Rubric
Guidelines for Submission: Milestone Two should be submitted as two papers in a single Word document. The entire submission should be 2 to 4
pages in length. Use double-spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Support your responses with at least two sources for each lens from
the assigned course resources or other scholarly sources located independently via the Shapiro Library. Cite your supporting sources in APA style.
Please note that the grading rubric for this milestone submission is not identical to that of the final project. The Final Project Part One Rubric will include an
additional “Exemplary” category that provides guidance as to how you can go above and beyond “Proficient” in your final submission, as well as additional
elements to address.
Critical Elements Proficient (100%) Needs Improvement (75%) Not Evident (0%) Value
Lens Analysis: History Analyzes chosen issue/event through

Theoretical Perspectives

For each of the following three scenarios, use a chart format to assess how each traditional theoretical perspective would best explain the situation that a social worker would need to address. You may create your charts in Word or another software program of your choice. An example chart follows the three scenarios.

Scenario 1

You are a hospital social worker who is working with a family whose older adult relative is in end-stage renal failure. There are no advanced directives and the family is conflicted over what the next steps should be.

Scenario 2

You are a caseworker in a drug court. Your client has had three consecutive dirty urine analyses. She is unemployed and has violated her probation order.

Scenario 3

You are a school social worker. A teacher sends her 9-year-old student to you because he reports that he has not eaten in 2 days and there are no adults at home to take care of him.

Chart Example:

Your client, an 11-year-old girl, was removed from home because of parental substance abuse. She is acting out in her foster home, disobeying her foster parents and not following their rules.

Theory

Explanation for Scenario – please respond to the questions below in your explanation

Systems Theory

What systems need to be developed or put in place to support the child? Would Child Protective Services need to become involved? What other systems would support her and a successful outcome for being in foster care?

Generalist Theory

What is the best intervention or therapy to use based on this child’s situation? Given her circumstances, how could you best improve her functioning?

Behavioral Theory

What behaviors are being reinforced? What behaviors are being ignored or punished? What would you suggest to maintain this placement? Would this involve working with the foster parents?

Cognitive Theory

How would you help your client to examine her thinking, emotions, and behavior? What would this entail from a cognitive developmental framework?

Pre Hospital Point Of Contact Troponin Testing-Practice Development Project

7500 word assignment exploring the evidence base of paramedic science, the range and hierarchy of evidence, and that which is appropriate for particular health care issues.

On this basis you will select a particular area in the field of paramedic science. The field chosen is  “Pre Hospital Point Of Contact Troponin Testing”

You are expected to undertake a structured systematic literature review including a critical analysis of the reported literature and in particular the ability to make recommendations for paramedic science and paramedic practice. This would be classed as a practice development project, so something that will bring the Paramedic role forward and obviously add to patient care and focusing on the clinical aspects and benefits of your project.

Use appropriate terminology, rationale and level of understanding for post graduate paramedicine.  This needs to be an excellent piece of work to achieve a minimum of 75 to 80%

The PRESTO trial is very current and can be included in the literature review

Give rationale for the topic

Evidence evidence  evidence must be most up to date and relevant ! Can look globally but remember this is UK based university project

Must show critical analysis and evaluation in the assignment at this post graduate level – this is really important.

Must be typed in no smaller than 12pt. font and double spaced.

Harvard referencing and about 40-50 references from various sources to include journal articles, professional references such as JRCALC, NICE guidelines, College of Paramedics, HCPC, WHO etc etc, current up to date literature…..all sources should be appropriate for a post graduate level assignment and of high quality. All references must be alphabetically ordered. Avoid online website references where possible.

Do not state anything within the assignment without evidence to back it up. Every claim made needs a reference to back it up

The following learning outcomes MUST be met within the assignment……

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Knowledge:

  1. A comprehensive and detailed knowledge of the evidence base of paramedic science.
  2. An ability to critically appraise the types of evidence available and classify this according to a hierarchy of evidence
  3. An ability to rationalise, plan, undertake and evaluate a major written project with clear evidence of the application to paramedic practice.

Skills:

  1. The ability to select a specific structure or framework for: (a) a comprehensive search strategy and (b) the critiquing and evaluation of the selected literature.
  2. The ability to synthesise and critically evaluate the selected literature identifying any deficiencies in the published evidence base.
  3. Critical reflection of the findings from the literature to paramedic practice.

Structure of assignment as a guide

Introduction:

What/why – your rationale…..one consideration is huge costs to the NHS in hospital testing per patient per bed etc etc…..give facts and figures. Equipping paramedics to implement prehospital POC cTn (Troponin) testing would be beneficial in ruling out ACS and help deal with challenges of avoidable emergency department visits or admissions. How will this benefit and bring the paramedic role forward and add to patient care.

Literature Review: (about 2000 words of the overall total)

Note: there is the potential for all the skills-based learning outcomes and the first 2 of the knowledge outcomes to be covered in the literature review

Child marriages in the Yemen

Brief outline of the research study. Please ensure that you include details of the design (qualitative/quantitative, etc) as well as the methods and procedures (questionnaire, interviews, experimental trial, observation, etc).

This research will be conducted as text-based research and will use data from books, including different reports and interviews that already exist in the field of gender studies about child brides in the Yemen. The research will encapsulate how patriarchy depicts young girls and women in the Yemeni society and identify the complications in the gender roles that encourage child marriages. Furthermore, child marriages legitimise underage rape, yet this rape is acceptable in the patriarchal worldview as long as there is an official marriage contract. Hence that a documentary presented in 2014 in Yemen, highlighted the struggle of women and that young girls were subjected to child marriage practices. In addition, the documentary revealed that over forty percent of marriages involved girls under the age of fifteen and these child brides were often subjected to physical and mental abuse, including sexual violence. Moreover, many girls died due to underage sex that caused internal damage including childbirth complications or, in other situations, attempts by the girls to commit suicide.

This is a sensitive subject and many girls do not contest the child marriage practice due to many reasons the prime reason is that when the bride is a child she is spoken for by her parents, and she has no power to voice her objections. Furthermore, socioeconomics plays a crucial role in a torn country torn by war with blockades and poverty and all these factors can primarily drive parents to marry off their daughters young, in order for their daughters to be cared for and fed.

Another factor is that the Yemeni society encourages marriage as a part of the social fabric in the Yemeni society, therefore, women must produce children to hold their father’s name in the Yemeni tribal structure. Tribally, its honourable to produce a large family, thus, the more male children a family has the more respected and secure the family becomes because male children will grow to be productive workers in the society and their tribes alike, and they can fight in wars if required or work outside the home. Therefore, women are seen as tools of production and their role is to produce children for their husbands in order to keep the family stable and rooted in their society’s social structure. Hence, as outlined above, the Yemeni woman’s burden is that she must endure all these factors to fulfil her productive role as required from her by patriarchy. This research will explore the meaning of marriage in the Yemeni society and what the effects are of child marriages and how women endure.

Legal Advice

•An advertisement is placed by Lark Lane Motor Co, in the Liverpool Evening Echo, on September 1st, 2019, stating:

•TWO FOR ONE … For two weeks BUY A NEW 2019 FORD FUSION NOW TRADE EVEN FOR A 2020 FORD

•Do not wait – Buy a 2019 Ford Fusion now, when the 2020 models come out we will trade you even for your 2019. You pay only sales tax and license fee. Your 2020 Ford will be the same model, same body style, accessory group, etc. A sure thing for you – a gamble for us, but we’ll take it. Hurry, though, this offer is good only for the remainder of September.

•Reginald Dubious sees the advertisement and goes to Lark Lane Motors. Without making any mention of the advertisement or of his desire to take advantage of the advertised exchange, and eventually trade in the 2019 model for the 2020 model, he purchases a Ford Fusion. The contract of sale for the 2019 Fusion makes no mention of the trade in offer. Five months later, after the release of the 2020 model, Reginald goes to the Lark Lane Motor Co and asks to trade in his 2019 model for the 2020. Lark Lane Motor Co refuse, saying that the 2020 model is priced at £7,000 more than the 2019 model and they cannot afford to trade it in for free.

•Advise Reginald Dubious as to his contractual rights, if any.

Respond to the following in a ~275-word response

Question: Considering DeSisto’s book review. the NPR All Things Considered (Links to an external site.) segment, and the Rocha (2013) text, what is your position on whether schooling and education are for professional training or for developing the humanistic sensitivities of students?

Consider the following prompt to guide your response:

1.How are you balancing this in your actual schedule of courses? Does your major, electives/minor, or extracurricular activities reflect one clear side in this debate?
2. What are your thoughts on how Rocha would respond to this question?

Your response must include citations (quotes or paraphrases) from Rocha (2013) AND our two controversy articles (Gross and Marcus, 2018 and DeSisto, 2011). Feel free to include insights from the other materials or your classmates as well. Your goal is to reflect on what you read and demonstrate that you thought deeply about the controversy and primary texts as well as our class discussions.

Remember to include the proper APA citations.

FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION WEEK 4

Be sure to review the “Reading Post Criteria” document, especially the word/minute parameters.

Respond to the following in a ~275-word response

Question: How did exploring these articles inform your opinion on whether or not schools should teach students to be patriotic?

Now that you’ve read the Controversy and Primary texts, reference (quotes or paraphrases) at least two of our three primary texts (the three primary texts would be: the two articles in the set you chose and Dotts (2019)) AND one of our two controversy articles (Rosenberg, 2017; Ravitch, 2006) in your written/audio/video response. Feel free to include insights from the other historical eras presented by your classmates as well. The goal is to reflect on what you read and demonstrate that you thought deeply about the controversy and primary texts as well as the class discussions from the Community Activity.

The following prompt questions are a guide to answering the overarching question thoroughly, though it is not required to answer each one:

What does it mean to be patriotic today and how do schools play a part in that?
What are your thoughts about whether or not school athletes should express their views by kneeling in during the pledge? How were you taught–or not taught–patriotism in your own schooling?
Is loving one’s country more nuanced than what is argued by Ravitch and/or Rosenberg?
The last few years have been labeled as one of the most politically polarized in American history. How does our era compare historically and with the historical references throughout these controversy texts?
Remember to include the proper APA citations.

Academic Article Review Assignment

Instructions

These assignments give you the opportunity to evaluate how methods we have discussed in class

are used in real scientific research. From these assignments, you will see how others question the

world around them and develop innovative methods to search for answers. I will provide you

with an empirical research paper, and you must read it and write a 2-page summary/review of

  1. These must be uploaded on Blackboard on the due date (see syllabus schedule). We will be

discussing the articles and your thoughts on them as a class and these papers ensure you have

comments or questions ready to share. Papers and the grading rubric are posted to Blackboard.

What to include:

  1. The first ¾ of a page should briefly summarize the paper. Be sure to include the background of the experiment (i.e., what does the study hope to accomplish, and what is the hypothesis?), the

methods used (i.e., what did the study do?), the results (i.e., what did the study find?), and the

discussion (i.e., what are the conclusions drawn?). You should also discuss any links between

the methods used in the article and relevant concepts we have learned in class so far.

  1. The second part of the paper should review what you thought about the study. After a critical review of the methods and interpretations, what did you find particularly well done? Or was there something you thought was poorly designed or misinterpreted? Be sure to always tell me why you did or did not like something about the study, and relate your reasoning back to

information you have learned in class. You should also try to think of the next step – what

kinds of questions could a follow-up study ask, and how might they be tested? This paper

gives you the opportunity to show me that you can think critically about scientific questions.

You do not need to have a perfect understanding of the statistics or methods, but should use

this as an opportunity to get accustomed to reading empirical work, which is an important

part of becoming an intelligent consumer of science.

Writing and Formatting:

• Type and upload the assignment.

• Include only your name (first and last) and the due date in the top right header

• Include the assignment name (e.g., Academic Article Review 1, etc.) as the title of the

paper

• Be sure to appropriately paraphrase information that is not your own (no quotes please!)

• You must cite the assigned reading using appropriate APA-style in-text formatting. You do

NOT need to include a formal reference list unless you include additional outside sources,

which you are encouraged but not required to do. Your textbook can be such a resource – make sure you cite it correctly if you rely on it!

• Use professional language and avoid spelling and grammatical mistakes
